Grilling food, growing friendship | Mid-Autumn with our sponsoring club, Douliu
On September 18, the Rotary Club of Yunlin Yunling visited “一個太陽一個月亮” (One Sun, One Moon) for a joint club meeting and Mid-Autumn celebration hosted by its sponsoring club, the Rotary Club of Douliu. The festival had yet to arrive, but the gathering already felt like a reunion.
Douliu has supported Yunling throughout its journey. Our annual gathering feels like old friends returning home with their families. Colourful polo shirts, garden lights, laughter around the tables and a group photo of adults and children gave our Rotary friendship the warmth of home.
From the president’s remarks, Rotary songs and toasts to friendly contests between the two clubs—axe throwing, balloon inflating and number guessing—everyone joined in the fun. Games have winners and losers; what stays with us is the memory of laughing together.
The evening also brought a connection with Japan. Toyohashi Rotary Club in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, was founded in 1950 and belongs to Rotary International District 2760. It has long supported service and international exchange. Through club member 森田通夫, his friend 佐藤吉充 also joined the celebration.
A club member’s introduction and a friend’s participation are helping us gradually build a bridge of friendship with Toyohashi Rotary Club. Smiles and greetings bring us closer even when our languages differ. The Japanese greeting “ハッピー中秋節！” at the end of the video became another special memory of the evening.
Thank you to the Rotary Club of Douliu for thoughtfully hosting the event, and to every member, family member and friend who joined us. Special thanks to Mr. Morita for making the connection and to Mr. Sato for taking part. As the food grilled, our friendship grew. We look forward to strengthening these ties between Taiwan and Japan.
