The Rotary Foundation

How giving becomes lasting change

The Rotary Foundation connects funding, expertise and local partners. Explore how a contribution can support lasting community change.

How SHARE works

For every US$1,000 designated to Annual Fund-SHARE, 47.5% goes to DDF, 47.5% to the World Fund and 5% to operating expenses.

47.5%

District Designated Fund (DDF)

47.5%

5%

Operating expenses

US$50

DDF becomes available after three years: 2026–27 gifts generate resources for 2029–30. The district allocates them with clubs through approved uses; this is not a club deposit or automatic refund.

This allocation applies only to Annual Fund-SHARE. Gifts designated to the World Fund or areas of focus do not generate DDF. The Rotary Education Foundation in Taiwan is a separate institution.

Try the funding mechanisms

US$1,000 → US$475 + US$475 + US$50

2026–27 · USD · Conditional illustration, not a commitment

Amounts are approximate. Each item is rounded to two decimal places, so their sum may differ slightly from the displayed total.

SHARE allocates a gift; it does not multiply it. These three mechanisms are separate and cannot be stacked on the same contribution.

A complete project budget example

DDF US$10,000 + World Fund US$8,000 + other cash US$12,000 = US$30,000. Cash is not matched again. Reaching the minimum does not guarantee approval.

Global grant DDF matching

Enter eligible DDF, not a cash gift. The World Fund matches 80%, up to US$400,000. Global grants require a US$30,000 minimum project budget, qualified partners, a needs assessment and approval. Fees are not included.

PolioPlus partner matching

Eligible PolioPlus gifts receive an additional 2:1 Gates match under the renewed 2025 partnership, subject to its conditions and annual limits.

Performance and transparency

2024–25 Annual Report: grant approvals, financial expenses and community outcomes.

1,423

Global grants: 1,423, totaling US$88.2 million across 109 countries.

468

District grants: 468, totaling US$29.0 million.

87%

About 87% of expenses supported program awards and operations, not only direct payments to beneficiaries.

Read the financial figures carefully

Program awards US$306.124 million + program operations US$25.431 million = US$331.555 million, or 87.42% of total expenses of US$379.248 million.

Net investment income was US$139.961 million: an amount, not a return rate or money payable back to donors. Investments can fall; the combined category of investment income and other activities was negative US$69.1 million in 2021–22.

US$569 million in gifts and commitments is not all cash received. Accounting-recognized contributions were US$406.478 million; the definitions differ.

Service that changes lives

Polio: during the 2024 Gaza outbreak, Rotary committed US$500,000 to support vaccination. Partners helped protect over 500,000 children, reaching 94% of the target population under 10. This was a shared achievement; global eradication is not yet complete.

Official sources

Zambia: Rotary, World Vision and Gates each provided US$2 million for a 2021–24 malaria program. Training 2,500 community health workers improved access to care for over 1.25 million people. A 2026 follow-up found 94% of positions still filled.

Official sources

Peace: a new peace center opened in Istanbul in 2025. That year, 130 Rotary Peace Fellows were selected worldwide to develop expertise in peace and conflict transformation.

From global resources to our community

Listen to local needs → plan a measurable project → connect partners and eligible grants → train and maintain → follow up. Not every club gift can be traced to these examples, and district allocations require approval.

LIGHT UP: led by the Rotary Club of Mailiao, with Yunling participating. The approved grant supports reading assessment, teacher development and adaptive learning.
