——"LIGHT UP! Illuminating Reading Power" launches press conference
When reading the same book, each child has different understanding and feelings. To support reading, you can start by understanding your child's starting point, accompany him to find suitable reading materials, and gradually accumulate understanding skills and learning confidence.
Organized by the Rotary Club of Mailiao with participation from the Rotary Club of Yunlin Yunling, the LIGHT UP reading initiative supports team development and a sustainable reading-literacy support system for remote communities along Yunlin's coast. Supported by a Global Grant from The Rotary Foundation, it brings together National Taiwan Normal University's SmartReading team and partners from several Rotary clubs to support children's reading and learning.
The core of this project is to bring support into daily classrooms:
📖 Understand your child’s reading starting point
Through SmartReading reading literacy diagnosis, teachers can help teachers understand students’ abilities and learning needs and provide more suitable reading guidance.
👩🏫 Support frontline teachers
Combine teacher training with graded teaching to provide teachers with tools and methods to accompany children with different learning paces.
🌱 Let reading continue to take root on campus
Establish a school-based reading promotion mechanism to connect school and community resources so that investment in the project can become sustainable daily support.

The launch press conference is the moment when everyone sees the plan; and the changes we expect will slowly accumulate in the next classes and readings.
